Balwyn Tigers defender Shaun Bergin, 26, was in an induced coma last night after being knocked out in a football match yesterday afternoon.

The clash happened just before 4pm, in the team's preliminary final against Blackburn.

The game was stopped for more than 10 minutes while paramedics treated Bergin.

A spokesman for Ambulance Victoria said he remained unconscious during the examination and journey to hospital.

Club vice-president Wayne Malone said the club was awaiting news on Bergin's condition.

''He got taken out in a tackle five minutes into the last quarter. He was taken off in an ambulance to The Alfred and the Balwyn football club are very concerned about his health.''
