A GIRL has been hit by a car along the Carnarvon Highway near St George, about 400km west of Brisbane.

Initial information suggests the girl — believed to 9 — was struck by the vehicle about 6km north of the rural Queensland town just after 6pm.

Paramedics said the car was suspected to be travelling at high speeds when the impact occurred.

The girl was transported to the local hospital with facial and brain trauma.
